Balay Habi: A Modern Treehouse
PSID Exhibit 2019
“Balay Habi” reimagines the Filipino treehouse for the modern age—an elevated suburban sanctuary that merges sustainability, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. This concept home was envisioned for Filipino industrial designer Jeff de Jesus, known for his close collaborations with local artisans from across the Philippines.
Drawing inspiration from the breezy openness of traditional treehouses, the design features a 21 sqm oval floor plan that encourages natural flow and multi-functionality. Seamless transitions connect the dining, living, and work areas, while smartly integrated built-ins and furniture maximize every inch of space.
Infused with vibrant tones and geometric motifs inspired by Filipino artistry, the interior blends earthy textures with modern sensibilities. Locally sourced natural fibers, handwoven details, and indigenous materials ground the space in sustainability, while strategic openings invite natural light and connect the home with its surroundings—bringing the outdoors in.
